Prehistoric sanctuary, which dates back to the second half of the sixth millennium BC, was found out during construction works in “Gradina” camping near Sozopol resort. The archaeologists have discovered the finding by accident and studied the region for several months, inform moreto.net. During the construction activities of complex “Black sea star", a group of archaeologists, led by the specialist on prehistory Peter Leshtakov from the National archaeological institute found the remaining of a prehistoric sanctuary. The sanctuary is situated on an area of around ten decares and the thickness of the cultural layer is around one meter. They inform the owner of the place, “Star Mill” company, which is also investor of the project about their finding. The company agrees to sponsor the diggings of the archaeologists. The place is one of the earliest found at the Black sea and is also one of the earliest on the Balkans. In a shaft deep nearly six meters, the archaeologists found pieces of wood, which dates back to the third quarter of the sixth millennium before Christ. According to them this is the oldest tree found in Bulgaria. The other exceptional finding is connected to the earliest forms of metal yielding. Metal pieces from the second half of the fifth millennium before Christ have been discovered. Three prehistoric tombs were also found, which are from the early bronze era. The archaeologists believe that they give information about the social structure and the religious rituals of the population, which lived on this territory in the third millennium BC. |

The world famous French architect Dominique Perrault won the competition for new governmental complex, which will be built in Sofia, informs “Trud” newspaper. Officially the results will be announce by the international jury today. Chair of the jury is prof. Helle Jul from Denmark, and the members are architects from Japan, France and USA. The projects which took part in the final round will be exhibited in the halls of the National gallery for foreign art. The project of Dominique Perrot was in the typical for him vanguard style. The governmental complex will be built on an area of 700 decares on the place of the current military barns in Sofia. The Frenchman wins over world luminaries like Zaha Hadid and Norman Foster. Other participants in the competition were the “G-3” group of architect Georgi Stoilov, the Italian Massimiliano Fuksas and the consortium “ADAIS – PROJECT”. The idea of the prime minister Sergei Stanishev and his brother – architect Georgii Stanishev – is ministries and state agencies to be placed in the new “Sofia city”, out of the heavily loaded now center of Sofia. According to the plans for construction on the terrain there skyscrapers could be built. The international architecture competition was announced by the Stanishev government in the beginning of August 2008. Then it was thought that the whole investment in the future center will probably reach 2 billion euro. The army has engaged itself to leave the terrain by 2011. |

Sofia in Europe's Top 3 of Cities with Most Attractive Property In terms of investing abroad, Bulgaria's capital of Sofia ranks as the city with the third most attractive property in Europe, according to new research. The study carried out by Global Property Guide (GPG) compared several factors which were judged to contribute to the attractiveness of buying property in 12 European capital cities. Some of the factors included prices per square metre, annual rental income, taxes, transaction costs, GDP and legislation in the country, the Sofia Echo reports. Bratislava and Istanbul took the first two positions respectively, while Sofia came in third. Many property analysts have speculated that house prices in Sofia will continue to rise in the years ahead following Bulgaria's accession to the EU. Bulgaria is often considered particularly attractive because its Black Sea Coast is comparable to Spain's Costa del Sol, but with typical property prices tending to be far lower. |

Today, Bulgaria marks one of its brightest days: the day of the Bulgarian education and culture and the Slavic script. This day is declared official celebration in 1990. Nearly a century and a half earlier when there was no Bulgarian state and 3rd March, 6th and 22nd September are just dates of the calendar, the language keeps the Bulgarian identity and the culture gives impetus to the national independence struggle. For the first time the Day of St Cyril and Methodius is marked on 11 May 1851. Since 1857 this celebrations starts to be regularly marked in Plovdiv, Tsarigrad, Shoumen and Lom. The earliest data for marking of the Days of Cyril and Methodius dates back to 12th century. Cyril and Methodius are born in Thessalnoniki and create the “glagolitsa” on an order by the Byzantian emperor Michail III. Prince Rostislav of Great Moravia entrusts them with the conversion of the western Slavs and the conducting of liturgy in own language. The “glagolitsa” does not look like any other European alphabet. All the letters are shaped in one style, in which the main elements are the cross, the triangle and the circle. The cross in symbol of Christianity as a whole. The triangle is symbol of the Trinity and the circle describes the infinity and eternity of divinity. Thus, the “glagolitsa” with its three main signs-symbols is a way of praise of God who gives everything to people. There are disputes between the scientist about who has created the Cyrillic alphabet, modernised version of which Bulgarians use today. The most spread idea is that it was created by Kliment Ohridski, a student of the two saint brothers. There is no evidence that Cyril and Methodius have ever visited Bulgaria. Their work has been spread throughout the Bulgarian land via their disciples. Tsar Boris I creates the necessary conditions for the development and distribution of the of the script. In this way, Bulgaria becomes the third (after Constantinople and Rome) religious and spiritual centre of Medieval Europe. |
